Isabelle Ryan - A Life in Dance

Isabelle shared some memories of her life as a professional dancer on stage and television for 15 years in shows such No No Nanette, Irene, The Two Ronnies Funny Girl, amongst others.  Isabelle also talked of her joy of teaching and how lucky she is to be still able to do something she loves. 

Fiona McCormack- Addressing Domestic Violence

Domestic violence is a major health risk to the Victorian community. Till now, the focus has been to put the onus on the women. However, the focus away from the male who is the person misbehaving. Men, not the women need to feel the consequences of their bad behavior.

Society must no longer make excuses for violence against women.

There needs to be programs in place that can help males when there is a risk of them being violent.

Prof Roger Rassool is an Assoc Professor of Physics at the University of Melbourne. He spoke about the FREO2 project, which uses physics to help treat pneumonia developing countries. 

David Dippie from Donations in Kind spoke about the ongoing opt in Balibo project.

This project is run in partnership with DIK and any clubs that wish to participate.  Timor Leste has been chosen as it is the poorest nation in our region by far and therefore where we can be most effective, DIK ship regularly to the area and now have a team of locals on the ground to assist with implementation.

Trevor Pang from Richmond Rotary Club and Andrew Hogan from Brunswick Rotary Club shared with us their clubs' experineces of changing the weekly club meeting time.

Keith Adamson, has been associated with the Metropolitan Fire Brigade since a baby. Having lived in an Inner Eastern Fire Station with his parents it was a natural progression for him to join the MFB.

17th November-ROMAC- Speaker-Raelene Hunt

Rotary Oceanic Medical Aid to Children (ROMAC) was began in 2007 by Barry Cooper, member RC Kangaroo Flat (outside Bendigo). Mission of ROMAC is to provide life or dignity saving surgery to children in developing countries.  By 2015, 400 children have now been treated. Children are treated in the paediatric ICUs at Monash and Melbourne Children's Hopsital.  All money raised goes to medical costs and none to administration as an invested donation pays for admin.

Guest Speaker-Daryl Dellora-Executive Producer of ‘The Dressmaker’

 This film opened on 29 October 2015 on 384 screens in Australia, with Kate Winslet as the protagonaist Tilly Dunnage. Its budget of $17 Million was quite large for an Australian film.

Jane Fisher is a clinical and health psychologist, specializing in women’s mental health. She is the Director of the Jean Hailes Research Unit at Monash University. She spoke as part of an Australian Rotary Hat Day fund-raising meeting at the Club. 

Alan Seale is a member of the Rotary Club of Central Melbourne Sunrise and of the Rotary District 9800 Vocational Service Committee. He spoke about the vision that the Vocational Service Committee has for the District’s activities in this area.

Robin Ould- CEO Asthma Foundation Victoria

Asthma affects one in ten Australians and, in 2012, 394 people died from Asthma. Asthma affects people of all ages. However, it is more prevalent among young male children and middle-aged females.                                                                                                                                           

Sam is the CEO of the Victorian Alcohol and Drug Association (vaada). He spoke about the relative impact of alcohol and various other drugs on Victoria and Australia. In particular, he compared the impact of ice with that of other substances.

Chris Richardson and Keith Ryall will make a presentation to the club on "Carlton Rotary Club".
