Dr Elaine Saunders
Dr Elaine Saunders is an audiologist and Director at Blamey Saunders, a company providing hearing assessment and hearing aids and is based in Albert St, East Melbourne.
Elaine emphasized that hearing is at its best at aged 10 and variably deteriorates after that. She said that people who had hearing loss took too long before taking action. Only 1 in 5 people who could benefit from hearing aids use them.
Elaine talked about strategies people could use to improve or maintain their hearing such as training your auditory memory – repeating a list of numbers spoken to them backwards, using your eyes, looking at people ‘s face when they are speaking, practicing listening as well as hearing. She emphasized that getting intervention for hearing loss early helped to maintain hearing with age, i.e. go buy a hearing aid.
