Adrian Nelson - Man Behind the Badge
Speaker Adrian Nelson gave us a snapshot of his life and career.
He was a student of Arts at Melbourne University majoring in International relations and sociology.
Adrian was the first student to do an international exchange with the University of Illinois. Chicago is the home of Walter Burley Griffin, the Architect for Newman College, a commission he received after winning the Competition to design the Master Plan for Canberra. Chicago was also the home of Frank Lloyd Wright in his earlier years. The university football stadium accommodates seventy five thousand fans.
After completing Law, Adrian worked for Anderson Consulting at their head office in Chicago, where he met this wife Louise visiting from the London office.
He then returned to Australia and took over the family business, Nelson Brothers Funeral Directors. The business has operated for one hundred and fifty five years and started in the 1850’s gold rush. They have five funeral homes in Melbourne.
Adrian’s father was a Rotarian. He Joined Rotary ten years ago and became the youngest Club President within eighteen months all while wife Louise was pregnant. Adrian and his family have hosted an exchange student. He has lead a GSE team to Holland and is currently in his first year as an Assistant District Governor.
Adrian told me afterwards they had to buy a new head office in Port Melbourne, partly to accommodate his father’s collection of vintage Rolls Royces. Lets hope they are not all hearses!
