Sharon Crean
Sharon Crean and Daughter Lisa visited the club and presented the work of Beyond Water. Sharon lives in Nairobi, Kenya and is visiting motherland New Zealand and Australia.
BeyondWater operates as a Global Development Group approved tax deductible aid and development project. In line with the work of the Water & Sanitation Rotarian Action Group (WASRAG) but not in conflict, Beyond Water is working on water related projects in Africa.
The reality of the numbers: 738 Million people don't have access to clean and safe water worldwide. 5000 kids die every day through poor water borne disease problems. 90% of those are under 5. It is 1.62 million kids under 5 dying per year. Water Changes Everything. Sanitation is key. Very few toilets can be found in African Schools. Little running water. So many girls don't have access to Sanitary Pads. So they started a Project to educate girls with Kenyan business women, many are from Rotary Clubs including the Nairobi Rotary Club (Check the 2100 likes on Facebook of the Rotary Club of Nairobi) .
We need $2000 to build a decent toilet. Sharon challenges the Rotary Club of Carlton to join the $1,000 challenge to fundraise to The Girl Project or support a girl for $80 per year for Individual Support programs. The Rotary Club of Flemington signed up with 3 girls (Check Sharon Crean facebook page https://www.facebook.com/sharon.crean).
