Juan Ford-Acclaimed Melbourne Artist and Archibald Prize Finalist

Juan showed slides of his work over recent years. He began by showing images of disembodied heads that he had worked on in Europe. His more recent work in Australia has been inspired by nature, when he has gone camping. Juan wanted to be part of the canon of Australian art. To do this, he needed to draw on the Australian art of the past, but give it a new twist. He has produced paintings that show the landscape imposing on human portraits. He has also done work making objects out of plants and materials from hardware shops.

A gallery of Juan’s art can be found at his website: http://www.juanford.com/. This also gives details of his impressive biography.
