Meri Ivanovska & Colleen Hall--The L2P Learner Driver Mentor Program

Meri Ivanovska is the
Manager of
Community Transition Support, with INLLEN. Her role is to get people with disabilities into work. Meri is the supervisor of Colleen Hall, who coordinates volunteers to work with young people.

 The L2P Program aims to assist learner drivers (under 21 years) who do not have access to significant adults or a suitable motor vehicle to gain a minimum 120 hours driving experience as prescribed under the Victorian Graduated System (GLS). Learner drivers will also have access to 7 professional driving lessons as part of the program. A referral process determines the eligibility for learner drivers and volunteer mentors to participate in the program.

 The benefits of the program include:

• Help a young person to achieve the compulsory 120 hours required to attain a Probationary Licence.

• Increase a young person’s opportunity to develop a meaningful relationship with an adult (mentor) in a supportive environment.

• Increase a young person’s opportunity for positive youth development and community engagement.

 The recruitment process requirements are:

•Attend an Information Session

• Complete an Application Form

• Attend an Interview

• Complete a National Police Check Clearance (*costs covered by L2P)

• Complete a Working With Children Check clearance

• Attend the VicRoads Training Sessions

• Complete a VicRoads Licence Check (*costs covered by L2P)

• 3 Referee Checks

 The ongoing program requirements are:

•Attend ongoing in-house professional development training

• Regular Communication with the L2P Program Coordinator

• Participate in Program Evaluation

• Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Match Agreement and all other Policy and Procedure documents as set out for the L2P project

 The Moreland L2P Program is currently recruiting Volunteer Mentors to drive for 1-2 hours per week to support a disadvantaged young person in the local community. The two training dates that have been set for the training are:

  • Sunday 19 July 2015 from 9am – 4pm
  • Sunday 26 July 2015 from 9am – 1pm or 12pm - 4pm (to be decided on the day)

*In order for a Volunteer applicant to be considered for the training – they will need to get in touch with Colleen and complete an application form first.
