DG Dennis Shore

This was Dennis’ first official visit to the Rotary Club of Carlton as DG. His wife Lynda also attended as a guest. Dennis said he and Lynda are keen to meet members.

Dennis gave an outline of his career with AMCOR and the paper industry, his experience with APEX and the various positions he had held with Rotary.

Dennis began by recognising past office holders within Carlton Rotary and congratulated the club on the success of the March 2012 District Conference.

He spoke on shared District objectives, club aims and the promotion of the principles of the current International President to inspire and motivate Rotary members.

Dennis said his visit to Carlton was his 20th official visit since changeover. In commenting on the Carlton Rotary Club, Dennis said he liked the club website. He mentioned the club history of Peace Fellows, with a nomination every year since the program began and the Peace related speakers, such as Dr Jonathan Kolieb, returning to share their experiences of the program. Dennis commented on the upcoming peace convention being planned for Hiroshima and on possible attendees.

Another major topic he spoke on was falling club membership, a problem shared by all club. He spoke of the various strategies clubs are attempting to combat this worldwide problem, including e-clubs, more flexible meeting times, strategic planning and participation in the Rotary Leadership program. Dennis noted that there was no shortage of projects and Rotary should continue to do what it does now – but bigger is better.
