John Liddell: A Plan for Repowering Australia

John Liddell is a volunteer speaker representing Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE), an independent, not-for-profit research/communication group with 600 members around Australia. The group works towards getting grid energy off coal and gas and onto renewable energy, at present primarily solar and wind and concentrating on solar thermal energy with storage (Spain has such a resource now) but also looking at other renewable energy sources as they emerge and become viable. The group does an average of one presentation per day around Australia and is working with Melbourne University.    In his talk he explained the key elements of their roadmap for taking Australian to 100% renewable energy for our grid.  BZE’s fully-costed plan, specifies ONLY proven, commercially available baseload renewable technologies that are increasingly powering other economies across the world.  Australia, he believes, is lagging behind in embracing 21st century technology.

John has been, amongst other things, a business trainer, a marketing manager and has run his own training franchise.  He has also taught business skills at both TAFE and university level.  He has a BSc (Hons) in Geography and a post graduate Management Diploma. While he has followed a career in business, he has always retained a deep interest in the functioning of our planet’s environment.
