Over 1 billion people are disabled worldwide, in Australia, 1 in 5 people have a disability and of those with disabilities only 54% are in the workforce. In addition to this many people are carers of disabled people at any one time.
There are significant gaps in medical knowledge and understanding of disability management. Access to health services need to be improved. Rehabilitation services need to be strengthened and extended. Health Services need new models of care. New technology needs to be rolled out including the hand hub which enables group treatment under one therapist, tele rehab which involves supervising rehab over the internet, and the Movelab which is a high tech system that can measure movement and make treatments more appropriate.
Mary & Fary publish all of their findings in medical journals and attend any conferences they are invited to in order to enable their work to reach more people.
