Mental Health First Aid Course
As a contribution to building community members' capacity to deal with mental health problems, the Australian Rotary Health Committee of Rotary District 9800 is conducting a Mental Health First Aid course to give skills for adults helping other adults.
The cost is $200 per person. This course will be conducted by Rotarian Betty Kitchener AM, the co-founder of the Mental Health First Aid Program: https://mhfa.com.au/instructor/135, who will donate her facilitator fee to Australian Rotary Health for mental health research.
Because this course will be delivered online, the number of course participants need to be capped at 12. Early registration is highly recommended as reservations will be strictly on a 'first come first served basis’.

Rotary Food Waste Event 2022
The Rotary Club of Melbourne is honouring World Environment Day with its partners, the Sofitel & the City of Melbourne. Rotarians across Districts 9800 and 9801 are warmly invited to attend this showcase event which raises funds for the non-profit food rescue charity Second Bite. In addition, the luncheon highlights the 7th Pillar of Rotary International – the Environment – and emphasises how Rotary is working with community groups and government organisations to make a difference for a more sustainable world.
You and your colleagues are warmly invited to attend this fundraising luncheon which features a celebrity panel discussion to raise awareness of how we can reduce food waste to benefit the environment. The 100% carbon offset menu will be co-designed by celebrity chef Matt Preston. Panellists include Lord Mayor Sally Capp, Dr Sandro Demaio, Ms Abiola Atejomobi, Second Bite CEO Steve Clifford. The event will be moderated by the very distinguished Professor John Thwaites, former Deputy Premier of the State of Victoria.
A portion of the ticket price plus the proceeds of the raffle will support the vital work of SecondBite. The raffle features a bottle of Grange, a night for two at the Sofitel, a high tea for two at Chateau Yering, and other prizes. All raffle proceeds will go to Second Bite while each event ticket purchased will provide 75 meals for vulnerable Victorians. 2021/22 Paul Carlin Outstanding Leadership Award
Nominations are now open (closing 30 May 2022) for this year's recipient of the Paul Carlin Award. If you know someone who through their paid or voluntary work are contributing to the Carlton community, consider making nomination. Nomination criteria is attached.
Tree planting - Royal Park Protection Group
One of the priorities of the Club’s Environmental Sustainability Committee, is to support tree planting activities in the Carlton/Parkville area. The Royal Park Protection Group have 550 seedlings ready to plant out at the Brens Remnant Area, and will be holding a working bee on Saturday 30 April at both 10 am or 12 noon.
The planting will be done at the Brens Remnant Area in Royal Park, which is adjacent to Brens Drive, which leads to the State Hockey and Netball Centre. Brens Drive is off Elliot Ave, which runs from the Zoo down to Flemington Rd. The Remnant Area is to the left of a sweeping right hand bend in Brens Drive.
What to bring:
There will be some snacks and bottled water will be available.
There will be trowels and gloves available but if you can please bring your own.
Other: Sunhat, gloves, water and possibly lunch.
Parking is available at the State Netball and Hockey Centre or come by Train to Flemington Bridge Station or Tram 58 Stops 24/25 or Tram 59 Stop 22.
